Kumihimo Description: Using a foam kumihimo disk, students will create an 8-warp braid with magatamas and seed beads. The nature-inspired vintage brass clasp adds the finishing touch to this organically textured bracelet. Additional session offered Sunday morning, June 9 (B131758).
Students will Learn: How to prepare the disk for braiding including: calculating cord length, estimating number of beads, when and why to use weights, and bobbin management. Students will also learn the 8-warp round kumihimo braiding technique (kongoh kumi) and how to lock beads in place. Finishing techniques including binding, cutting, gluing, and assembly of the focal clasp will be demonstrated.
Project will be completed in class.
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring: Magnifiers, Nymo D, scissors, tape measure, big-eye needle, E 6000 glue, task lamp.
