Kumihimo Description: Master a bead spinner to make setting up for kumihimo a breeze. You'll want to to make one of these fast and fun beaded ropes for every focal bead in your collection.
Students will Learn: How to prepare the foam kumihimo disk for braiding including: calculating cord length, estimating number of beads, bead spinning, when and why to use weights, and bobbin management. Students will also learn the 8-warp round kumihimo braiding technique (kongoh kumi) and how to lock beads in place. Finishing techniques including binding, cutting, and gluing will be demonstrated.
Project will not be completed in class.
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring: Magnifiers, Nymo D, scissors, tape measure, task lamp, work surface, bead spinner, big-eye needle, E 6000 glue, bead spinner needle. Optional: Focal bead with minimum hole diameter of 10 mm or focal bead with 10 mm bail.
Materials in Kit: Seed beads, braiding string, end caps, clasp, foam kumihimo disk.
Limit: One seat per person per class.
