Wirework Description: In this introduction to soldering with a butane torch, you will learn to form and solder jump rings into a flower, and then kick it up a notch with simple embellishments. Class discussion will include not only the many uses of this component, but also the design and modification possibilities for creating one-of-a-kind pieces.
Students will Learn: The fundamentals of soldering, how to safely use a butane torch, and how to set up a safe soldering station at home. Students will also be introduced to some basic metalworking techniques that can be used in other metalworking projects, such as using a disc cutter, texturing, and making a low-tech cold connection.
Project will be completed in class.
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring: Instructor provides all tools for use in class.
Materials in Kit: Copper wire and sheet metal, pewter embellishments, miniature screws, bail, sanding sponges, polishing pads, solder. Instructor provides all consumables for use in class.
