Description: Many soldering students have asked this question: How can I solder something that has stones attached? Find out in this class, which explores soldering techniques for a variety of attached elements.
 
Students will Learn: How to solder with heat-resistant stones in place, solder a link with a bead attached, solder a ring that has a stone setting in place, and fuse wire into a ball next to a pearl.
 
Prerequisites: Previous experience soldering precious metal is recommended (for example, a basic soldering class). Please note that fusing or low-temp soldering (like for stained glass) is not equivalent experience.
 
Project will be completed in class.
 
At least 16 years old.
 
Supplies to Bring: Bench block, fine-tip marker, safety glasses. Bring an apron and dish towel size rag (both in natural cotton fabric. Optional: Low power magnifiers (1.25 - 2x, like head band magnifiers, reading glasses, or clip on magnifiers), and a small, portable task lamp. Instructor will bring all other tools and supplies for the project, including torches and butane, for students to share during class.

 
Pliers: Chainnose without grooves, flatnose standard, flush side-cutting, standard roundnose.
 
Materials in Kit: Sterling sheet, wire, and solder; stones; sandpaper; full-color, step-by-step handout.
 
Limit: One seat per person per class.
