June 2-4 • 9:00am-5:30pm (with 1.5 hr. break) - (21 hours)Level: Advanced Maximum Class Size: 10 Class Fee: $760.00  Metalwork Description: This intensive, three-day studio session focuses on skill refinement in the art of hand-crafted metalsmithing. The class project is a seven-element, double-sided medallion with decorative front-and-back panel images, forged background texture plates, a domed hollow bezel frame, and a forged bail and rivet created as a cold-construction tension assembly. Students will Learn: How to expand their metalworking hand skills and achieve confidence with tools, materials, and processes. This class includes forging sheet metal; forming; swaging; and using groove blocks, dapping blocks, punches, stakes, and mandrels. The instructor will also provide direction in using simple tools with increased efficiency, productivity, and finesse. Prerequisites: The skilled intermediate and advanced practitioner should be experienced and comfortable working with basic jewelry hand tools, using a flex shaft to drill holes in metal, and sawing and filing. Project will be completed in class. At least 18 years old. Supplies to Bring: Goldsmith hammer; chasing hammer; nylon face mallet; bench block; bench pin; 3-in. C-clamp; saw frame; saw blades: #0 and 3/0; dividers; ruler; scribe; 8-in. hand files: barrette, crossing, #2-cut; standard needle files: barrette, half-round, square, equaling, crossing, triangle; wooden ring clamp; steel ring mandrel; bench rag; writing and drawing materials; center punch; round dapping punch; magnification (Optivisors). Pliers: Standard 5-in. pliers: chainnose, roundnose, flatnose, half-round/flat, parallel. Materials in Kit: Fine silver, copper, brass. Limit: One seat per person per class. |
