Metalwork Description: Students will have the opportunity to work with a number of power tools, such as flex shafts and Dremel tools (and accessory tips) to give their metal jewelry projects a professionally finished look. Students will use precut pieces of nickel silver and copper as practice pieces that can be stamped, textured, oxidized, domed, and turned into a pendant or a pair of earrings. Additional session on Thursday, June 6th (B130322).
Students will Learn: How to use flex shafts and a few styles of Dremel motorized tools; the pros and cons of each type of motorized tool. The instructor will give demonstrations that focus on some basic hand pre-finishing techniques, as well as how to use grinding tips, rubberized Cratex wheels and tips, radial bristle disks, brass wheels, sanding bands, silicone polishing tips, felt wheels, and polishing compound.
Project will be completed in class.
At least 16 years old.
Supplies to Bring: Metal cutting shears or scissors, writing materials.
Materials in Kit: Nickel silver sheet, copper sheet. The instructor provides all tools for use in class.
