Description: Intrigued by enamel work? This is your chance to learn from a renowned enamel artist and teacher. Add transparent, luminous color to your jewelry by creating small cloisonné or painted enamels on fine silver or copper. Topics will include fundamentals for applying and firing enamels, use of both lead and lead-free color, sifting, foils, cloisonné and painting techniques, torch and kiln firing, and creating matte or gloss finishes. This workshop is held off site at the Milwaukee Area Technical College. Breakfast and lunch is included in the tuition as well as complimentary transportation to and from the college. Additional session offered Sunday, June 2-Tuesday, June 4 (B13M).
 
Students will Learn: Shade enamels using a variety of techniques appropriate for cloisonné, champleve, basse taille, or painting processes. Focus on blending colors to achieve gradations, luminosity, and depth. Soldering and setting techniques will be discussed as they relate to enameling.
 
Project will be completed in class.
 
At least 18 years old.
 
Supplies to Bring: 1-2 magazines for a disposable work surface, dust mask or respirator, tweezers – clean and sharp, Sharpie marker double-stick scotch tape, tracing paper/sketch book, colored pencils, small scissors, towel/apron, writing materials/notebook, water color tray or about 12 plastic spoons. If you wish to work on fine silver – 20-22 ga. If you want to bring your own(or more) copper – 18-22 ga. Any other scrap metal or enamel supplies you might already have and want to bring.
 
Materials in Kit: 6 Copper shapes (ovals, circles, squares), enamel Kit with my favorite Ninomaya colors, 000 paintbrush, silver foil, 10 feet cloisonné wire. In addition, instructor will provide the following shared materials and tools for students to share:Klyr Fire adhesive, counter enamel, trivets, sifters, diamond sanding sponges and sticks, alundum stone, more cloisonné wire for purchase, additional copper shapes for purchase, painting enamels, firing forks, glass brushes, copper cleaner, saran wrap for covering enamels, oil for painting enamel.

 
Limit: One seat per person per class.
